Werner is a brilliant young man with an aptitude for building and fixing radios, which earns him a place at a brutal Nazi academy and a special assignment to track illegal broadcasts. The story alternates between their perspectives as the war progresses, exploring themes of survival, human connection, and the ways people try to be good to one another against all odds.
