"Happiness" (originally titled "Generica") is a satirical novel by Will Ferguson about Edwin de Valu, an overworked editor at Panderic Press. Desperate for a bestseller, Edwin publishes a dubious, thousand-page self-help manuscript promising wealth, weight loss, and happiness. The book becomes an international sensation, but its overwhelming success leads to unexpected and chaotic consequences, including the outlawing of misery and cynicism, and Edwin finding himself pursued by a murderous cartel. The novel follows Edwin's attempts to undo the global "Age of Nice" he inadvertently created and save the world from the tyranny of forced happiness.
