 The Testaments is a 2019 novel by Margaret Atwood and serves as the sequel to her acclaimed 1985 novel, The Handmaid's Tale. Set 15 years after the events of the first book, it offers new perspectives on the dystopian world of Gilead through the narratives of three distinct women: Aunt Lydia, a powerful figure within the regime; Agnes Jemima, a young woman raised within Gilead's confines; and Daisy, a young woman living outside its walls. The novel delves into the inner workings of Gilead and explores how these characters come to terms with their identities and the lengths they will go to for their beliefs, ultimately playing crucial roles in shaping Gilead's fate. It was a joint winner of the 2019 Booker Prize.
