East African When Stories by Pamela Kola

East African When Stories is a collection of origin / “when” tales by Pamela Kola, drawing on oral traditions from East Africa. Published originally in the late 1960s (and in revised editions later), the book tells stories that explain when certain things began among people or animals — for example when people stopped killing twin girls, when death began, when guinea‐fowl stopped living with people, etc. The stories are simple, imaginative, culturally rooted, illustrated, and aimed at primary / intermediate readers.
