Origin of the Tales: The author, Daniel Irungu, states that the stories in the book were first told to him by his grandmother.

Storytelling Experience: He recounts telling these "exciting stories" to others, who were captivated, listening “without moving... with wide-open eyes and their faces shone in the red-yellow light from the burning, crackling fire.”

Purpose: The author decided to write the stories down after learning to read and write in school. His goal was to benefit "those who could not come and listen to me to read for themselves and learn the moral lessons in them and at the same time learn how to tell the stories to others."
