Key Concepts of the Book 

• Discipline 1: Focus on the Wildly Important Goals (WIGs): The first discipline is about intense focus. Instead of juggling dozens of priorities and achieving mediocre results on all of them, the book demands that you select only one or two "Wildly Important Goals" (WIGs) that will make the biggest difference. This goal should be specific, measurable, and have a clear finish line: "From X to Y by When".
• Discipline 2: Act on the Lead Measures: Most teams track "lag measures" (results like revenue or customer satisfaction) which are historical and can't be changed after the fact. The key leverage, however, lies in "lead measures" — predictive, proactive actions that your team can directly influence. For example, the number of sales calls made (lead measure) predicts future sales (lag measure).
• Discipline 3: Keep a Compelling Scoreboard: People play differently when they are keeping score. This discipline involves creating a simple, visible, and engaging scoreboard that shows both lead and lag measures, so everyone on the team knows at a glance whether they are winning or losing. This transparency drives engagement and motivates the team to focus on the right actions.
• Discipline 4: Create a Cadence of Accountability: Execution falls apart without a rhythm of accountability. The book prescribes a short, weekly WIG session where team members report on last week's commitments, review the scoreboard, and make new, specific personal commitments for the coming week. This consistent cycle of accountability ensures ongoing focus and course correction, making the WIG a priority amidst the daily whirlwind.
