The Cards and Counters bring an abstract and concrete concept to this math activity.The cards and counters reinforces the knowledge that each number is made up of separate quantities. The child will see the sequence of numbers and how many separate units go to form each number. Great practice to show the odd and even numbers as well. It gives the child the visual perception of the number value and what it is in object form.

The Cards and Counter has two compartment boxes with 55 red wooden counters and a set of red printed wooden numerals 1-10.
How to use:
Show the different cards to the child and have him say the numbers out loud. Lay the cards on the table in front of the child.
Have the child put the card written 1 to the left side of the table. Explain that you will need a little space between the cards.
Ask the child to put the other cards to the right if the first card in numerical order. Tell the child thay you are going to put the number of counters each card asks for under the corresponding card. Point to the card 1. And ask the child how many counters should you place under this card.
The child should answer 1. Take one counter out of the box and gently slide it (using your index finger) under the card written 1.
Have the child count the counter. Repeat for card 2 by placing the counters next to each other. Repeat for card 3 but place the last counter under and to the middle of the two counters. Repeat this method for the rest of the cards and have him try it on his own.
